NEW VISIONS OF LONG ISLAND

The Sacred Land

Susan Buroker grew up on the south shore of Long Island, New York in a seaside town in which relationships with the sea and land were held sacred. She transformed from a young girl to a teenager as the landscape changed, making room for new housing developments. As an adult Susan lives on the north shore of Long Island, still drawn to the sea and land, witnessing the constant transformation of our environment.

Ms Buroker's daily practice as an artist is to sit in the landscape reflecting, back into the world the poetry nature is creating. These stories become the raw material for her paintings and sculpture.

Susan Buroker is now an interdisciplinary artist and teacher in Smithtown, NY. Susan’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and mostly recently at the Heckscher Museum of Art, Long Island Biennial.
